On Sunday, April 18th around 9:00 in the morning, pickup trucks with trailers loaded down with an assortment of antique tractors and plows, began arriving at Ed Moore's farm in Ashley, Ohio. They began unloading, hooking the plows to the tractors and, one by one, you could watch them drive out into the 40 acre bean field.
This was the Morrow County Antique Tractor & Equipment Assoc. Inc.'s Annual Spring Plow. Each year about this time, Association members and friends get together for this celebrations of our farming heritage. This year there was a record of 32 tractors, pulling one, two, three and four-bottom plows, at least 75 people in attendance, and even three dogs who rode with their drivers while working the ground. Mixed in with the MCTEA were members of neighboring county's antique associations.
Around noon, all the tractors came out of the field to break for a potluck lunch of burgers, brats, hot dogs and all kinds of side dishes and deserts and then headed back out to the field to finish. With the record attendance, the field was done by 2:00 and then the work of loading plows and tractors back up onto their trailer was repeated.
